What Is An Insurance Company Rating?
Every insurance company is rated based on their financial strength, whether they are selling auto insurance, home insurance, health insurance, life insurance and so on. What this means to a policyholder (i.e. you, the person that buys an insurance policy through a company) is how financially "sound" the company is that is taking your money and servicing your policy. How is this beneficial you might ask? Would you want a low scoring insurance company collecting a monthly premium from you if you weren't quite sure they had the ability to pay out on a claim? Probably not, right? Financial strength is the primary indicator in a companies ability to repay debts and pay for day-to-day operations.

What Do These Ratings Mean?
While there are a number of types of ratings (A+, Strong, etc) the general rule is 'The higher the score, the more financially sound the company'.
